Pull the latest SoH from the Tesla service console. Flag if approaching 70% retained capacity (warranty trigger threshold).

Firmware update verification

Confirm latest firmware applied. Tesla pushes major updates roughly quarterly; battery owners sometimes have updates pending due to weak Wi-Fi.

Time-of-use schedule audit

Compare your current Octopus tariff (Flux/Go/Cosy) against the Powerwall TOU schedule. Mis-aligned schedules can cost £200–£400/year.

Backup gateway inspection

For systems with whole-home backup gateway: verify auto-switching <20ms, test transfer to backup loads, confirm alerts route to your phone.

App + monitoring health

Check the Tesla app shows live data with no gaps. Investigate any data outages — usually a firmware re-handshake.

Update install records with Tesla so any warranty claim is processed without delay.

Powerwall maintenance questions

Does Tesla Powerwall need maintenance?
Lightly. The battery itself has no moving parts and is sealed. But the surrounding install (electrical tie-in, gateway, app monitoring, firmware) benefits from an annual professional check — and required for Tesla's 10-year warranty in some scenarios.
What's the warranty?
10 years to 70% retained capacity. Tesla requires the unit to remain registered to the original install address. Moving the unit voids warranty unless re-registered through a Tesla certified installer (we are).
Can SMS service my Powerwall if you didn't install it?
Yes — about 25% of our Powerwall maintenance work is on units installed by other companies (some now defunct). We have direct access to the Tesla service console as a certified installer.
How much does annual Powerwall maintenance cost?
£149 standalone. Free if bundled with a wider solar maintenance contract (£249/year for solar + Powerwall + EV charger).
What if my Powerwall has degraded below 70%?
Tesla replaces under warranty (within 10 years from install). We file the warranty claim and coordinate replacement — typically 4–6 weeks Tesla turnaround.
Storm Watch saved my fridge — but it didn't fire on the last storm. Why?
Common cause: the gateway lost cellular comms with Tesla's Met Office API feed. Diagnostic visit gets it back online; sometimes a firmware push fixes it remotely. Annual checks catch this before the next storm.
