Commercial Solar Panel Maintenance & O&M

Commercial solar panel maintenance and operations & maintenance (O&M) across the UK. Monitoring, inspection and inverter cover that protect the yield of your asset — built into every install and PPA, and available for systems we didn't install. Free commercial review: 0800 099 6606.

Commercial solar maintenance in one line

For a commercial array, maintenance is yield protection, not housekeeping. An unmonitored system quietly loses 1–2% of generation a year to soiling, string faults and inverter drift — real money on a large roof. Proper O&M (monitoring, inspection, inverter cover) typically costs £8–£25 per kWp per year and holds the system's performance ratio near its design level for 25 years.

Yield protection

Why commercial solar maintenance pays for itself

A commercial solar installation is a six- or seven-figure asset that is expected to generate for 25 years. Left unwatched, it doesn't fail loudly — it fades quietly. A single underperforming string, a soiled section of roof, or an inverter drifting out of spec can shave 1–2 percentage points off annual yield without ever triggering an alarm. On a 250 kWp array that is several thousand pounds of generation a year disappearing invisibly.

Operations & maintenance is simply the insurance on that asset: a few pounds per kWp a year to protect tens of thousands of pounds of annual generation, and to catch the slow drift early while it is cheap to fix. The mistake we see most often is a business buying solar and then leaving it unmonitored. Explore our commercial solar installation service, or for farms and estates, agricultural solar.

What's covered

What commercial solar O&M includes

1

Performance monitoring

String- or inverter-level monitoring that watches the system performance ratio (a healthy commercial array sits around 80%+). This catches the slow 1–2 percentage-point/year drift that is otherwise invisible until a bill reveals it.

2

Annual physical & thermal inspection

Drone and ground thermal imaging to find hot spots, failed bypass diodes and connector issues before they spread across a string.

3

Electrical & isolation testing

DC string testing, AC checks, isolation and earthing to MCS/commercial standards — documented for your insurer and asset owner.

4

Inverter health & end-of-life planning

Commercial inverters reach end-of-life around year 10–12. We plan the replacement (and whether to add storage at that point) so you avoid unplanned downtime.

5

Cleaning where it pays

Flat commercial roofs near agriculture, ports or industry soil faster. We clean only where the yield recovery justifies it — not on a blanket schedule.

6

Reactive fault response

A defined call-out for faults, sized to how critical the generation is to your operation — from next-business-day to priority response.

Cover, not contracts

O&M built into every commercial system

We design O&M into every commercial install and PPA rather than selling it as a bolt-on. Cover scales with how critical the generation is to your operation.

Level What's included
Built-in (every install) Lifetime monitoring + alerts, annual review, manufacturer + workmanship warranties
Standard O&M Monitoring, 1 annual inspection, reactive call-outs (next business day)
Critical O&M Monitoring, 2 inspections, priority response, inverter cover, asset-owner reporting

Inherited an underperformer?

Existing commercial array underperforming?

If your commercial solar was installed by someone else — or the installer has since disappeared — and the numbers don't look right, we will survey it. Our free commercial review measures the actual performance ratio against design, runs a thermal and electrical inspection, retrofits monitoring if there is none, and tells you honestly whether the fix is a repair, a monitoring contract, an expansion, or a replacement.

We diagnose any brand of commercial inverter — SMA, Sungrow, SolarEdge, Huawei, Fronius and more. For the domestic equivalent, see solar panel maintenance and upgrades.

Frequently Asked

Commercial maintenance questions

How much does commercial solar maintenance cost?
Commercial solar O&M typically runs £8–£25 per kWp per year depending on system size, roof access and response SLA. A 100 kWp warehouse array might budget £1,000–£2,000/year; larger MWp sites pay a lower rate per kWp. For systems we install, much of this is built into the contract rather than billed separately.
What does commercial solar O&M include?
Performance monitoring (string- or inverter-level), an annual physical and thermal inspection, electrical testing (DC strings, AC, isolation), inverter health and end-of-life planning, cleaning where soiling warrants it, and reactive fault response. The goal is to hold the system performance ratio near its design level for the full 25-year life.
Do you maintain commercial solar you did not install?
Yes. We survey third-party commercial arrays, retrofit monitoring if there is none, and advise on the most cost-effective route — repair, a monitoring contract, expansion, or replacement. Many of our O&M clients came to us with an underperforming system another installer walked away from.
How much does a neglected commercial array lose?
An unmonitored commercial system can quietly lose 1–2 percentage points of yield per year to soiling, string faults and inverter drift. On a 250 kWp array that is thousands of pounds of generation a year, invisible without monitoring — which is exactly why O&M is yield protection, not housekeeping.
Is O&M included with a commercial install or PPA?
Yes. For every commercial install and Power Purchase Agreement we deliver, O&M — monitoring, annual inspection and inverter cover — is designed in from commissioning and sized to the system, rather than sold as a separate afterthought.
How quickly do you respond to a commercial fault?
Response is set by your O&M tier — from next-business-day on a standard rooftop array to priority response on critical high-uptime and PPA sites. Continuous monitoring means we often see a fault before you do.
